Daniel Hooper about his most recent painting of Joker: “Firstly, I love him as a character. But Joaquin Phoenix made him a masterpiece… My favorite film and a new painting obsession!”
Daniel, how did your art career begin and why did you choose to be an artist?
I painted a wall in my new home around three years ago with some classic Ferrari formula one cars, and it all started there… from wall to canvas.
Who are your biggest influences?
Francis Bacon. The first art I saw that made me think. Painting of 1946 by him is my favorite painting ever. What do you think? A lot of people think his art is “terrible”.
Well, this is an after war art, so “terrible” might have been an intention. It is very strong visually, but the bottom objects are hard to read imaginatively. I think there is no narrative, but a combination of force objects.
Death, destruction with some kind of hidden religious undertones I think.
Emphasized with intense color.
I love it!
What is the favorite part of your job?
Freedom
What is your own favorite art piece of yours?
King (the Gold Lion running). Personally, I think that painting says so much with ease.. I stopped at exactly the right moment, not too much, not too little…

How do you seek out opportunities?
I market myself online (www.danielhooperart.co.uk) Instagram @danielhooperart, Editor’s note)
Which current art world trends are you following?
None.
There are a lot of art collectors among readers of Red Hot Monde magazine, what kind of art pieces would you recommend to invest into?
Originals by Masters.
How do you navigate the art world?
I don’t, I just do my thing.
Your favorite movie about art?
Love is the Drug.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Do not smoke!
Well, Daniel Hooper similarly to JOKER, the object of his recent painting, is “man of few words”.. unless it comes to art.
