Monterey Car Week 2026
There are few moments on the luxury calendar quite like Monterey Car Week. For ten days each August, Monterey County becomes a gathering place for collectors, designers, automotive visionaries, philanthropists, and enthusiasts from around the world, all drawn by an extraordinary celebration of automotive history and culture.
But in 2026, the story extended well beyond the cars.
This year’s Monterey Car Week delivered record-breaking economic impact and charitable giving, reaffirming its place not only as one of the world’s most prestigious automotive gatherings, but as a significant force for the communities that host it.

A Record Year for Monterey County
According to See Monterey, hotel occupancy across Monterey County reached an impressive 87.6 percent during this year’s Car Week, while hotel room revenue climbed to $51.5 million.
Occupancy increased 3.8 percent year over year, fueled by a 5.6 percent increase in demand, while hotel room revenue rose an extraordinary 14.4 percent compared with the previous year’s event.
The numbers underscore the scale of Car Week’s influence. Traditionally attracting more than 100,000 visitors, the annual celebration generates an estimated $130 million in visitor spending, benefiting hotels, restaurants, retailers, galleries and independent businesses throughout the region.
Yet the hospitality community’s response during a particularly challenging summer was equally notable. Hotels made rooms available at discounted rates for people displaced by the Timber Fire in Big Sur, as well as for firefighters, with partnership support continuing into neighboring San Luis Obispo County.
It was a reminder that the luxury of Monterey Car Week exists alongside a strong sense of community.

The Heart of Car Week: Giving Back
Philanthropy has always been woven into Monterey Car Week, and 2026 continued that tradition on an unprecedented scale.
At the center was the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, whose charitable legacy surpassed a remarkable $50 million in lifetime giving. More than half of that amount has been raised within the past decade alone.
Through the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, contributions support more than 130 nonprofit organizations focused on the education, health and well-being of children throughout Monterey County.
Among the beneficiaries are Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Natividad Medical Foundation, Monterey County Youth Museum, Montage Health Foundation, Salinas Valley Health Foundation, Seneca Family of Agencies and United Way Monterey County.
This year, the Concours d’Elegance itself raised more than $4.3 million for charity, further strengthening its reputation as one of the world’s most consequential philanthropic automotive events.

The Auctions That Made History
The philanthropic momentum extended across the auction circuit, where automotive rarity met extraordinary generosity.
At the Quail Auction by Broad Arrow Auctions, portions of proceeds were directed toward local nonprofits including Rancho Cielo, an organization providing education and vocational training to Monterey County youth.
The Monterey Auction by RM Sotheby’s supported the Rotary Club of Monterey, helping channel funds toward local nonprofit organizations.
Meanwhile, Concours for a Cause in Carmel-by-the-Sea turned participation itself into philanthropy, directing vehicle entry fees and public donations toward more than 25 local charities. Beneficiaries included Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula and Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.
Then came two remarkable moments that captured the extraordinary financial scale of this year’s collector-car market.
A 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe sold for $42.905 million, setting a new record as the most expensive American car ever sold at auction.
Close behind was a 2026 Ferrari Luce “Tailor Made” charity lot, which achieved $40 million, with the entire amount benefiting educational programs through the Ferrari Foundation.

More Than an Automotive Celebration
What makes Monterey Car Week distinctive is its ability to transform a passion for automobiles into something much larger.
Across Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and Seaside, the 2026 edition featured more than 35 automotive events,
including more than 15 free events accessible to residents and visitors.
For collectors, it remains a showcase of provenance, craftsmanship and automotive design. For luxury travelers, it is a week of coastal California hospitality, sophisticated gatherings and cultural discovery. For the local community, however, its significance reaches much further.
The event supports a hospitality workforce of nearly 28,000 people and channels tourism revenue toward the businesses and organizations that make Monterey County what it is.
“Monterey Car Week is extraordinary not only for the cars and events that attract visitors from around the world, but for what it gives back to Monterey County, ”said Janine Chicourrat, chair of the See Monterey Board of Directors and managing director of the Portola Hotel & Spa.
That sentiment was echoed by Rob O’Keefe, president and CEO of See Monterey, who emphasized that Car Week’s impact reaches hotels, restaurants and small businesses while generating meaningful funding for organizations serving local communities.

The New Definition of Luxury
Perhaps the most compelling takeaway from Monterey Car Week 2026 is that luxury is evolving.
The rarest automobiles still command breathtaking prices. The world’s most prestigious concours still attracts collectors and connoisseurs. The coastline remains an incomparable backdrop for an extraordinary week of automotive culture.
But increasingly, the true measure of an event’s influence is what remains after the guests have gone home.
With $51.5 million in hotel revenue, 87.6 percent occupancy and more than $4.3 million raised for charity during this year’s celebration, Monterey Car Week demonstrated that economic prosperity and philanthropy can share the same stage.
In Monterey, automotive excellence isn’t simply displayed.
It gives back.
And perhaps that is the most enduring luxury of all.
